CHEF DEVWRAT JATEGAONKAR'S 'TRIMURTI' MARGARINE SCULPTURE ENTERS

THE GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS

The magnificent margarine sculpture of TRIMURTI, which was on display for the past month at the Santacruz Airport's Domestic Terminal had been a great centre of attraction and a 'selfie' taking hot spot for visitors from all walks of life. Little did the visitors realise that they were witnessing a piece of history, because this very sculpture has now made its way to the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS as the biggest free standing sculpture made entirely of margarine (which is a base for any bakery product and just a bit harder than normal butter in frozen stage). It took Chef Devwrat 10 days to make this sculpture with an average of 14 hours of work each day. Margarine can melt easily at room temperature, so the entire sculpting was done in an air-conditioned glass walled room with a constant temperature of 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. During the process of sculpting, the sculpture developed cracks thrice and at one stage almost collapsed. But through sheer perseverance and patience, Chef Devwrat worked and re-worked on the dynamics and the sculpture was finally complete and went on display on 24th February 2017 on the auspicious day of Mahashivratri. This Trimurti was built using a total of 1506.800 Kg of margarine and stood 6.5 ft tall and 8.5 ft wide. Most importantly it did not have any supporting beams, wires or rods, one of the main criteria for the record.

India wins its first silver medal at Culinary Olympics 2012, Germany.

IKA Culinary Olympics is a global competition organized by World International Chefs' Association, in collaboration with German Chefs' Association .This Olympiad is held every 4 years since last 25 years .It is the most prestigious and biggest culinary event in the world. 2000 chefs from more than 75 countries like USA, UK, Japan,Korea,Italy,China ,France etc participate in it.

This year India was represented for the first time by a lone member Chef Devwrat Anand Jategaonkar, an executive chef at Radisson Blu, a five star property at Alibag district Raigad. He was sponsored by Mr.Vinay Phadnis, Chairman and managing director of Phadnis Infrastrucutre Pune and Radisson Blu resort & Spa Alibag.

Working tirelessly for 2 months, Chef Devwrat created a 3 ft x3 ftx3ft margarine (butter) sculpture. Carrying this huge yet delicate butter sculpture in one piece, all the way from Alibag to Germany was a challenge in itself. He, however, was richly awarded with a silver medal in the 'culinary artistry' category for his butter sculpture 'Oh Cinderella'. In this sculpture, a crucial moment from the fairy tale is frozen. Cinderella, a poor girl is turned into a princess by a kind angel. The magic was to last till midnight. The clock starts tolling midnight hour, Cinderella runs out of the ballroom, prince running behind, her shoe slips. Alas! No time to get back.

While speaking to the media, Chef Devwrat opined "In such an Olympics, generally all the participants are sponsored by their respective governments. If India also encourages its chefs by sponsoring their participation, it will definitely help in boosting Indian Hospitality Industry".
