IKA Culinary Olympics is a global competition organized by World International Chefs’ Association, in collaboration with German Chefs’ Association .This Olympiad is held every 4 years since last 25 years .It is the most prestigious and biggest culinary event in the world. 2000 chefs from more than 75 countries like USA, UK, Japan,Korea,Italy,China ,France etc participate in it.

This year India was represented for the first time by a lone member Chef Devwrat Anand Jategaonkar, an executive chef at Radisson Blu, a five star property at Alibag district Raigad. He was sponsored by Mr.Vinay Phadnis, Chairman and managing director of Phadnis Infrastrucutre Pune and Radisson Blu resort & Spa Alibag.

Working tirelessly for 2 months, Chef Devwrat created a 3 ft x3 ftx3ft margarine (butter) sculpture. Carrying this huge yet delicate butter sculpture in one piece, all the way from Alibag to Germany was a challenge in itself. He, however, was richly awarded with a silver medal in the ‘culinary artistry’ category for his butter sculpture ‘Oh Cinderella’. In this sculpture, a crucial moment from the fairy tale is frozen. Cinderella, a poor girl is turned into a princess by a kind angel. The magic was to last till midnight. The clock starts tolling midnight hour, Cinderella runs out of the ballroom, prince running behind, her shoe slips. Alas! No time to get back.

While speaking to the media, Chef Devwrat opined “In such an Olympics, generally all the participants are sponsored by their respective governments. If India also encourages its chefs by sponsoring their participation, it will definitely help in boosting Indian Hospitality Industry”.
